If you were just at the ISC West show, then you saw a lot of great security gadgets and gizmos that you can add to your arsenal of electronic security weaponry that will stop bad guys dead in their tracks.

Each year, the show gets bigger and better and the technology, that can be brought forth to the marketplace, gets more inspiring and exotic.

The new security equipment should make you ecstatic and motivated to start selling and upgrading them to your prospects and clients.  That being said, how are you going to market these wonderful wares to your marketplace?

Many folks in the security arena fall victim to the illusion of security, that they have all the clients they can handle. They forget that you can easily lose an existing client, in a heartbeat, to a ruthless competitor or you can have a  sales rep “jump ship” and take your client list/deal flow with them to another security company.

That’s why it’s so important to always be marketing and  prospecting for new security clients, NO MATTER how busy you think you are.

At the absolute bare-bones-minimum, you should be spending at least 45-60 minutes per day (you and I both know you can do this!) on developing new business. If you did the math on this it works out to 250 hours per year of time you’d be spending on growth on your business.  Can you image how much you’d be adding to your net income if you added a piddly hour a day to your marketing.  Now, image what you could do to your net income in five years….250 hrs x 5 yrs = 1,250 hours…you’re growth and income would catapult into the stratosphere!

But most folk won’t even spend an hour per week on their marketing efforts and, unfortunately, will NEVER experience an explosion of income.  If you quiz the real successful security honchos, you’ll find that they really dig this idea and, furthermore, they make it an essential, rote, habitual, part of their day…everyday!

Doing it becomes a matter of discipline…but, once you get into it, it’s just like brushing your teeth every morning and night, it becomes second nature. You just got to designate time for it…cuz it’s a matter of survival of the fittest!

Ideas are perishable, just like a loaf of bread so if you haven’t started implementing security ideas that you got from the ISC West show, then it’s probably never going to happen.

What did it cost you to go to the show, anyway…hotel, air fare, gambling, drinks, steaks?  You need a ROI on all that coin you dropped out there in the desert!
